Community Relations
One of the most important aspects of mining and exploration are relations with the communities influenced by our projects. Focus is committed to working with local communities to ensure that our stakeholders benefit from our mining and exploration activities. A cornerstone to all community relations programs is respect for the local traditions and culture, and an open and constant dialogue between the company and the community.

Focus' full-time Community Relations person at Nueva California is Ms. Rita Contreras. Rita holds a University degree in Social Studies and Postgraduate qualification in Human Resource Management; plus, she has over 14 years of professional experience in mine operations and projects throughout Peru.

The Nueva California project is situated nearby the villages of Tumpa and Musho, with a population of approximately 800 inhabitants. Approximately 60 workers are currently employed at the mine.

At work, Rita lives in the village which ensures complete integration and continual dialogue between herself, the community and the company. Open lines of communication are critical in ensuring that the surrounding communities and stakeholders are consulted and kept informed. This way work can proceed and communities can participate and maximize the benefits associated with our investments.

Besides being a local employer, Focus is working on numerous initiatives with the community:

1. Reforestation of rare native species
2. Education and supplies
3. Sports programs
4. Participating in local events and celebrations

Focus is also an active participant and collaborator in the management program of the Huascaran Biosphere Reserve.
